Effects of Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol, also known as PG, is a synthetic liquid solutions that is tasteless and odorless. The liquid substance has been classified by The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an additive that is recognized as safe. Propylene glycol is used in the manufacturer of many products including medical items and food.

Its absorbent qualities makes it a great solvent for food coloring and flavors. The liquid substance is also used in firefighting training. The liquid substance is colorless, clear, and slightly syrupy produce vapor when heated. Propylene is tasteless and doesn’t have any smell. According to CDC, propylene glycol is typically a safe chemical with a range of uses.

Interestingly, there have been a lot of questions about the inhalation of this liquid substance for more than 70 years. At first, the solution was used in hospitals as part of breathing treatments. However, it is used in very many things such as ice cream, as well as anti-freeze. The propyl glycerin solution is only a single compound, own its own. If there are any risk associated with it, then it must be minimal or almost negligible. According to research and studies done in the 40s, it has been found out that when propyl glycerin is inhaled, there is small to no dangerous effect.

Another study which was carried out in 1978 confirmed the same details: that propyl glycerin does not seem to contain any dangerous elements when orally inhaled. However, in 1940, the study found that propyl glycerin may also be a strong deterrent against influence, pneumonia, as well as other respiratory diseases when it is inhaled or vaporized.

Propyl glycerin is one of the major components in e-liquid cigarette, and this clearly means that smoking or vaping e-cigarette is completely safe and there are no risks at all.
